Enhancing Secondary Education


Would you like to become a content area teacher in grades 6-12? If so, the Enhancing Secondary Education Program is a great place to launch your future career. The School of Education (SOE) with collaboration from the College of Liberal Arts (COLA) and the School of Engineering, Science, and Technology (CSET), has created this program to help students obtain teaching licensure as secondary teachers in the subjects of English, History, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Music, Visual Arts, and Health and Physical Education.

Enhancing Secondary Education (ESE) Online Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA) Summer Bridge Workshop

Calling all new Spartans!

Incoming freshman interested in teaching middle or high school may apply for the VCLA Summer Bridge workshop. Participants will review the skills necessary to pass this assessment needed to be licensed as a teacher in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Instructors will provide valuable test-taking tips and techniques to pass the VCLA. Passing this assessment is a requirement for entry into the Teacher Education program.

ESE faculty will provide intensive workshops, educational assistance, guidance, supplies, and support while students prepare for the examination.
