The Virginia Consortium for Teacher Preparation in Severe Disabilities Adapted Curriculum K‐12 (SD CONSORTIUM) The SD Consortium is made possible through the integration of distance education technologies, including videoconferencing and other supporting technologies.This program includes five universities; Norfolk State University (NSU), George Mason University (GMU), Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), the University of Virginia (UVA), and Radford University (RU).The purpose of the program is to increase the number of teachers in Virginia with endorsement in severe disabilities. The program, which is approved by the Virginia Department of Education, involves hands on experiences with students that are severely disable, thus allowing trainees to apply the concepts learned in class to actual school settings. The Virginia Consortium for Teacher Preparation in Vision Impairment Add‐on Endorsement (VI CONSORTIUM) The VI Consortium includes six universities; Norfolk State University (NSU), George Mason University (GNU), James Madison University (JMU), Old Dominion University (ODU), Radford University (RU) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Its primary goal is to prepare teachers to be highly skilled at working with students with visual impairment and blindness. Classes are offered through video conferencing equipment to establish real-time, interactive, multipoint instruction among the universities. Students are able to see and communicate with the instructor and other university students in real time.
