Brief Biography
Dr. Hongzhi Guo joined Norfolk State University in Spring 2019 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering. Dr. Guo received his PhD in 2017 from State University of New York at Buffalo, NY, USA, and MS in 2012 from Columbia University, NY, USA, both in Electrical Engineering. He was an assistant professor at University of Southern Maine, Portland, ME and a research scientist intern at Genscape Inc, Louisville, KY.
Dr. Guo's research interests are in extreme environment wireless communication, sensing, control, and networking. He has received several research-related awards including the best demo award in IEEE Infocom 2017 and the best reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications from IEEE Comsoc.

His research interests include:
- Cyber-physical system in extreme environments for smart health, climate-smart agriculture, underwater sensing, and underground infrastructure monitoring;
- Wearable nano-biosensing using wireless nanosensor networks;
- Low-power internet-of-things in extreme environments;
- Modeling, fabrication, control, and characterization of reconfigurable antennas and RF metamaterials;
- Wireless communications and networking in extreme environments using artificial intelligence.
