Dr. Chung-Chu (George) Hsieh is a Professor of Computer Science at Norfolk State University (NSU). He serves as the Principal Investigator for the Center of Excellence in Cyber Security at NSU ($4.98M, 2015-2020, Department of Defense), and a Co-PI for the Consortium for K-20 Cybersecurity Workforce Pipeline ($25M, 2014-2019, Department of Energy).

Dr. George Hsieh joined NSU in 2002 and served as the MS.CSC Graduate Program Coordinator from August 2003 (when the program was launched) to December 2013. He has acquired approximately $6.5 million in external research funding as a principal investigator, and participated as a Co-PI or research team leader on additional projects with $31.75 million in external funding.

Prior to joining NSU, Dr. George Hsieh worked at Bell Laboratories of AT&T and Lucent Technologies from 1982 to 2001 as a member of technical staff, senior manager, and director for applied research and product development. During these years, he had a variety of technical and management responsibilities, including technology and product planning and development, organization and project management, and business development.

Dr. George Hsieh received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois in 1982 and 1980, respectively, and B.S. in Nuclear Engineering degree from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, Republic of China, in 1973. He is a member of IEEE Computer Society, ACM, Tau Beta Pi, and Upsilon Pi Epsilon.

     •   Information security (secure information sharing, cloud computing security, cryptography, critical infrastructure security, big data security, cybersecurity analytics)
     •   Network security (network infrastructure protection, secure communications, wireless security, network forensics)
     •   Data science and big data (Hadoop, machine learning, data mining, statistical analysis
