Forever Upward Recipients

Forever Upward Awards

In 1983 Dr. Lyman Beecher Brooks, the first President of Norfolk State University, wrote the first definitive history of the University. Dr. Brooks titled his book, Upward: A History of Norfolk State University. “Upward” captured the essence and the spirit of the progressive strides our great University has made since its founding in 1935.

To rekindle that legacy, Norfolk State University established the “Forever Upward” Award in the year 2000. The “Forever Upward” award is the most prestigious award bestowed upon any individual or organization by the University’s President. It embodies the high expectations of achievement and citizenship by the University, in addition to the exceptional contributions, accomplishments, and commitments of the honoree. Award recipients are acknowledged for their scholarly or humanitarian contributions to the University or the greater community. They are a notable few, and their exceptional achievements and accomplishments represent the master design for greatness. They will always be exemplars for all, mentors for our youth, and guardians of the sacred values and highest hopes for Norfolk State University.
