Reverend Al Sharpton
Founder and President,
National Action Network

Rev. Al Sharpton is the founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), a not-for-profit civil rights organization headquartered in Harlem, New York, with more than 70 chapters nationwide including a Washington, DC Bureau and regional offices from coast to coast.

As one of the nation’s most-renowned civil rights leaders, a March 2013 Zogby poll said one out of every four African-Americans say that Rev. Sharpton is the person that speaks most for them. Rev. Sharpton polled higher than any other civil rights or political leader in this public opinion survey.

Rev. Sharpton has been praised by President Barack Obama as “the voice of the voiceless and a champion for the downtrodden,” and by former President George W. Bush who said that “Al cares just as much as I care about making sure every child learns to read, write, add and subtract.”

He is currently the host of a daily television show on MSNBC that analyzes the top political and social news, and features the country’s leading newsmakers.  ”PoliticsNation” with Rev. Al Sharpton airs at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The show is so popular that it broke MSNBC ratings history with the highest viewership of any show at 6 p.m. since the network’s inception.

Additionally, Rev. Sharpton hosts “Keepin it Real,” a nationally syndicated radio show that is heard daily all over the country as well as two weekend radio shows that air in several U.S. markets.

Rev. Sharpton delivers live remarks at NAN’s weekly Saturday Rally at NAN’s Harlem headquarters the “House of Justice” that is broadcast live on NAN’s website www.nationalactionnetwork.net each Saturday from 9-11 a.m.

Nicolas A. Herbert Nicolas A. Herbert 
Program and Management Analyst, OBIM

 Nicolas A. Herbert is a Program and Management Analyst with the National Protection and Programs Directorate’s Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM). OBIM, formerly known as the United States Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology (US-VISIT) Program, is the lead entity in the Department of Homeland Security for biometric identity management services across the Government. Mr. Herbert’s responsibilities include the management of services and processes that support the core business of the organization. Mr. Herbert ensures that the organization has the most suitable working environment for over 400 employees and their activities. Mr. Herbert’s main focus is on using best business practice to improve efficiency, by reducing operating costs while increasing productivity. 

Previously, Mr. Herbert served as a Project Manager for General Services Administration where he served as the primary point of contact responsible for overall project management of multiple design and construction projects, including planning, design, budgeting, and construction of leased buildings and complexes as well as the renovation, repair, and alterations of existing ones. 

Nicolas Herbert also enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 2000. Nicolas has risen in the enlisted ranks as a First Class Maritime Enforcement Specialist Petty Officer. Mr. Herbert was able to apply for the Officer Candidate School and was selected through a rigorous application and board panel to the elite opportunity to become a US Coast Guard Officer. Mr. Herbert graduated from Officer Candidate School in August 2014, which made him the first officer in his family. Ensign Herbert is currently the Executive Officer of the Reserve Vessel Boarding Security Team for Sector Baltimore in Baltimore, MD. Nicolas has a legacy of military family presence dating back to World War II, Vietnam War, Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. Over the course of his military career, he was awarded the Department of Transportation 9-11 Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Team Commendation, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Special Operations Service Medal and Global War Terror Service Medal. 

Mr. Herbert received a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction Technology from Norfolk State University in 2004 and a Master of Science in Management from Liberty University in 2011.
