The admission staff will evaluate courses taken at other institutions. Transfer credit is accepted for course work with a grade of "C" or above from regionally accredited institutions of higher learning. A Certificate of Advanced Standing listing all credits accepted by the University will be sent to the student. The applicant must submit a copy of the advanced standing to the advisor for review and approval.

Courses numbered 100-299 are considered lower level elective (LL EL), and 300-599 are considered upper level elective (UP EL).

Additional transfer credit may be obtained through Advanced Placement Examinations, College Level Examination Program (CLEP), American College Testing Proficiency Examination Program (ACT-PEP), Norfolk State University Subject Examinations, DANTES, Credit for Military Service and Schools. See University catalog for details.

The purpose of the Norfolk State University Financial Aid Program is to provide assistance to qualified students who without such aid would be unable to attend. Aid is awarded on the basis of need as determined through the College Scholarship Service (CSS) and Pell Grant Analysis.

Types of aid include scholarships, grants, loans and employment. Applications and additional information may be obtained at the Office of Student Financial Aid Room 130, H.B. Wilson Hall.

The University offers a number of awards each year to qualified students who have been accepted for admission. Some of these awards are only available to Virginia residents, while others are given without regard to state of residency.

A student must be enrolled at least half-time in a degree program and in good academic standing to be eligible for financial assistance. Certain programs may require the student to maintain full-time status.

Students must reapply for aid each year. The deadline for applying for financial aid is May 31 for the ensuing academic year.

An entering student must be accepted for admission before receiving an award regarding financial aid. To apply for financial aid, new and currently enrolled students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
