What is GOING PLACES?

ORGANIZATION

GOING PLACES is a non-profit organization created by the Hampton Roads Hospitality Education and Training Initiative in cooperation with Opportunity, Inc., the Hampton Roads Workforce Initiative, to give motivated participants a head start on hospitality management careers. All tuition costs, fees and instructional materials are funded by a U.S. Department of Labor grant. There is absolutely no charge to participants. A limited amount of child care and transportation assistance is available.

INSTRUCTION

GOING PLACES provides industry-developed hospitality courses that lead to nationally accredited certification. Classes are held in Virginia Beach, Portsmouth and on the Peninsula. Class times include day, evening and weekend hours.

LOCAL INDUSTRY PARTNERS INCLUDE

Sheraton Norfolk Waterside, Hilton Airport, Renaissance Portsmouth, Holiday Sands, the Cavalier, the Norfolk Waterside Marriott and Choice Hotels; Uncle Louie's Restaurant and Sodexho-Marriott Services and others.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR GRADUATES

Program graduates have the inside track on fulltime jobs with GOING PLACES industry partners, and a placement coordinator helps in locating jobs with other employers.
