Tourism and Hospitality Management - B.S. Degree Program

FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

The Tourism and Hospitality Management Program has a broad comprehensive hospitality curriculum offering undergraduate courses in the areas of Tourism, Hotel, and Food Services Management. The Undergraduate Program leads to a bachelor of science degree, delivered by an experienced full-time faculty with a student to faculty ratio of not more than 30 students per class so that students get to know professors well.

PROGRAM GOAL

To prepare students to apply business principles to all aspects of the dynamic and growing global tourism and hospitality business including hotels, cruise ships, convention and meeting planning, food service, theme parks, national parks and resorts.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Industry executives report an immediate need for graduates from schools of business. The combined tourism and hospitality industry is the nation's largest private industry segment. As hospitality businesses become more complex and competitive, the demand for professionally trained management continues to rise.

Graduates usually begin their careers with the larger lodging, restaurant and other food service chains. Entry-level jobs are generally at the assistant manager level and, for those with good work habits, a positive attitude and lots of "people skills," progress to middle and upper-level management positions. Whereas hospitality programs at many other institutions prepare students only for a career in the hospitality industry, the NSU program is a specialization within the business administration degree, and thus affords the graduate greater career flexibility.
