 SpartanCard Frequently Asked Questions

 

Q) How much does a new ID Cost?

A) The first SpartanCard replacement fee is currently $20.00 (fee subject to change).

 

Q) Where do I go to pay for a new SpartanCard?

A) Replacement fees are payable to the Cashier's office. If there is enough funds on the SpartanCard SpartanBucks account it can be used to purchase a new card in the card office.

 

Q) Why can't I keep my old SpartanCard if I get a new one?

A) For security purposes, patrons are only allowed to possess one SpartanCard.

 

Q) Do I have to get a new SpartanCard every year?

A) No. The first SpartanCard received is to be your SpartanCard for the duration of your enrollment at Norfolk State University. Lost, damaged or stolen cards warrant a $20 replacement fee.

Q) Can I punch a hole in my SpartanCard?

A) No. The SpartanCard is a formatted card and punching holes in the card will damage it and prevent it from working properly. The replacement fee for a damaged card is $20.

Q) Can I get cash off of my SpartanCard?

A) The SpartanCard is a 'deposit only' account. Patrons may request refunds at the end of each semester (and throughout the summer semester) in the SpartanCard office.

Q) How can I put money on my SpartanCard?

A) Patrons can add money to the SpartanCard at the Cashiers office using cash, debit or credit, or check. Patrons can add money (cash only) to the card by using the SpartanCard cash management center machine located in the Spartan Station and the new student center. Patrons can add money to their SpartanCard using financial aid funds by logging on to a) www.nsu.edu b) click MyNSU c) click Log into MyNSU d) enter username and password e) under Spartan Self Service to the right hand corner, click Make a Payment f) accept the Terms and Conditions. This will lead to the page that shows the Financial Aid balance and the option to transfer up to $1000 as a full time student and $600 as a part-time student.

Q) I washed my SpartanCard, can I have a new one?

A)No. A new card costs $20 and can be purchased at the Cashier's office using cash, debit or credit, or check. If the card is purchased at the cashier’s office the receipt must be brought to the card office to receive the new ID. OR if the patron has enough SpartanBucks on the card to cover the charge, then $20 can be deducted from the patron’s card in the SpartanCard office.

Q) My card was stolen, can I have a new one at no charge?

A) A new card can only be issued at no charge if the patron reports the card stolen to the Campus Police (only if the event happened on campus) and then brings a case number written on an official business card of the officer handling the case to the SpartanCard office. Otherwise there is a replacement card is $20. City police reports will not be accepted.

Q) My card is broken, do I have to pay for a replacement ?

A) There is a replacement fee for all lost, stolen or damaged cards, currently $20 (subject to change).

Q) Can I change my meal plan?

A) Patrons must contact the Office of Residential Life / Housing regarding all residential meal plan changes. 

Q) Where can I add money to my card?

A) Patrons may add money by going to the Cashier's office in H.B. Wilson Hall, using cash, check or credit; patrons can add cash to their card using the card management center located in Spartan Station.

Q) How can I use my financial aid to purchase my books?

A) Patrons receiving financial aid may complete a SpartanCard Authorization form in Student Financial Services, which allows FA to be placed on the card for purchases. The Spartan Card office cannot transfer financial aid to the SpartanCard. All FA transfers are done through the FA office.

Q) Can I use my SpartanCard off-campus?

A) Yes. Please click here to see a complete list of the off-campus merchants.

Q) I do not live on campus, can I purchase a meal plan?

A) Yes, commuter meal plans may be purchased in the Cashier's office in increments of 25, 50, 75 and 100 meals and each plan comes with $25 bonus points.
