Readership Program
The News in Education program is a
world wide initiative geared towards promoting the use
of newspapers as an educational resource, supplementing
classroom instruction and textbooks. We believe that
there is no better resource available to encourage literacy,
while fostering lifelong learning and critical thinking
skills. Students are able to apply concepts they
learn in math, reading, science, history, marketing,
and civics while gathering a deeper understanding of
the world around them.
The Virginian-Pilot's Educational
Services Program provides newspapers and services to
schools, colleges, adult literacy programs, youth detention
centers and other accredited educational programs in
the metro and outlying areas of Hampton Roads and Northeast
North Carolina. Our program is available for students
of all ages and ability levels, and includes newspaper-based
curriculum materials and student supplements to support
the Virginia Standards of Learning.
