Project Title: Enhancing
Educational Opportunities in HIV
Prevention & Risk Reduction for African
American College Students through Online
Health Information & Community Service
Learning |
|
To address the disproportionate impact of HIV and its
consequences on young African Americans, the Norfolk State University
Collaborative Partnership will establish an HIV prevention and risk reduction
program centered around the online resources of the National Library of Medicine
and community service learning.
The program will use the power of the Internet to
invigorate young African Americans to learn about HIV and to
communicate and translate what they learn into action. Two
overarching goals will be addressed: (1) to raise awareness
and use of the National Library of Medicine’s online
resources to increase knowledge, foster attitudes,
behaviors, and belief changes needed to prevent and reduce
the risk of HIV in African American Norfolk State University
students, and (2) to fulfill unmet online HIV prevention and
risk reduction information needs in Hampton Roads, Virginia
through direct community services provided by African
American Norfolk State University students. Dr. St. Ros
