ABOUT NSUAEOPPurpose/Mission
The mission of the Norfolk State University Association of Educational Office
Professionals is to promote the professional growth of the office professionals
at Norfolk State University, and to provide a better understanding of the needs
and expectations of the University and communities served.
Our History
Norfolk State University of Educational Office Professionals was organized in
October 1977 under the name of Norfolk State College Secretarial/Clerical
Association. It was established to provide for the personal and professional
development of Norfolk State University office support staff. After receiving a
letter from Mrs. Alyce Willis, VAEOP Higher Education Representative, Mrs. Ruth
T. Vincent, Personnel Director met with the support staff in the summer of 1977
and promoted the formation of the association. Dr. Harrison B. Wilson,
University President approved the formation of the association and gave his
support and encouragement.
NSUAEOP is affiliated with the Virginia Association of Educational Office
Professionals (VAEOP), and the National Association of Educational Office
Professionals (NAEOP). Training for effectiveness in the workplace is provided
through ongoing skills and training workshops. Each year, a member and an
administrator are given special recognition for their outstanding service and
professionalism, and a scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving NSU
student. NSUAEOP publishes a newsletter, News Update that highlights the
accomplishments of its members and provides general information regarding the
Association.
The University’s President, Dr. Carolyn Meyers and her administration
continue the moral and financial support of NSUAEOP. NSUAEOP courageously
launched the association’s first web page in the year 2000 and this revised web
site is a continuing effort to elevate and enhance the productivity and career
satisfaction of members of NSUAEOP.
