Through a semester
Members will be expected to volunteer for various events to assist the battalion. Each volunteer event through the semester will earn them points to go toward their drill grade. The events vary, but can include:
- Being an usher at an NSU football game
- Participating in the Polar Plunge
- Actively participating in a Battalion Event such as the Spring Awards Ceremony or the Commissioning Ceremony
- Volunteering time to help tutor other students
- Community volunteer events
- Working the concession stand at the Ted Constant Convocation Center for an event
Once a semester there will be grades assigned for uniform inspections and either Close Order Drill (marching),
or participating in the Spring Awards Ceremony. These grades will be factored into the final grade for Naval
Science Drill.
Towards the end of the semester, the Physical Readiness Test (PRT) is conducted. This must be passed
or else the member will face being placed on a Fitness Enhancement Program (FEP). This consists of a
fourth day of PT a week under guidance to help bring the member up to standards. In addition to the PRT
there will be a swimming qualification held once a semester.
Freshmen or students with low GPA's will be required to complete a mandatory study program. They must
keep a log of the hours they studied, which will be reviewed and signed off on.
During the Summer
During the summer, members will participate in Summer Cruise. This is a chance for members to experience what it is like to serve in "The Fleet". Freshmen will participate in CORTRAMID where they will spend time in the Aviation, Surface, Submarine, and Marine Corps communities to give them a taste of what each has to offer. The summers following CORTRAMID, members will have a chance to choose where they will spend each summer cruise.
