Nuclear Particle Physics

Welcome to the home of the NSU's
  Nuclear & Particle Physics Group

The NSU Nuclear & Particle Physics (NPP) group performs experimental research on the nature of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) at intermediate energies. The group is involved in several experiments at the nearby Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab), Newport News, VA.

    Calorimetry
We are  involved in the development and construction of particle Calorimeters.

    Photoproduction
We participate in experiments using real and quasi-real high energy photon beams.

Meson Spectroscopy at CLAS
Welcome to Experiment [E99-005],[E01-017] at Hall B of Jlab
Meson Spectroscopy in Few-body Decays. We study exotic hybrid meson and strangeonia in the 1 to 2 GeV mass range.

Electroproduction at Very Small Q2
Electroproduction at very small values of Q2 using unpolarized electrons is equivalent to photoproduction using partially linearly polarized photons. We particiate in the design of a Forward Electron Tagger for CLAS.

The Structure of the Nucleon GEp

We study the ratio of the electric and magnetic form factors of the proton by measuring the transverse and longitudinal components of the polarization of the recoiling proton. Experiments have been performed at Hall A and coming in the near future in Hall C at JLab.

PRIMEX (PRImakoff EXperiment)

The Primakoff Experiment is to perform a precise measurement of the neutral pion lifetime using the small angle coherent photoproduction of the pi-zero in the Coulomb field of a nucleus, i.e. the Primakoff effect.

The pi0 to gamma-gamma decay proceeds primarily via the chiral anomaly and represents one of the most definitive tests of low-energy QCD.
