January 2008
Dear Social Work Major:
Welcome to the School of Social Work at Norfolk State
University! We are excited that you have chosen to join us
for your social work education.
You are embarking on an extremely important journey – seeking a baccalaureate degree. One of the initiatives newly instituted by NSU is the reading program. All new students will be required to read two books. One book will be read by all incoming freshman and the second is required of all social work majors. Here are the books you should read before arriving on campus:
1. Who Moved My Cheese? By Spencer Johnson, Penguin Group (2000)
2. The Call to Social Work: Life Stories By Craig W. Lecroy; Sage Publishers, 2002
Both of these books are available in major bookstores. You may also take advantage of used copies by ordering online at Amazon.com. The used paperback copies begin at $18.00. You will be given further instructions regarding the discussion of and assignments for these readings in the UNI 101 course. UNI 101 is a required course for graduation from Norfolk State University. Since each major has a specific reading selection, you should notify us immediately if you decide to change your major.
We are looking forward to meeting you and having you become
involved in the activities of the school. BEHOLD THE GREEN
AND GOLD!
