Norfolk, Va.— Norfolk State University officials received notification this week from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) that Behold the Green and Gold is now an officially registered trademark of NSU. From this point forward, the ® designated should be used on all publications, clothing, mugs, glasses, etc. bearing the slogan. The mark can be used with any font, style, size and color. The wording Norfolk State University and the NSU logo were published in the Trademark Official Gazette (OG) on December 1, and 15, 2009, respectively. According to the university’s research, the slogan was first used in 1974. University officials applied for the slogan’s trademark in May 2009.
