NSU Offers Scholarships to
African-American Males in Hampton Roads
Norfolk, Va.—Norfolk State University is committed to
the educational success of African-American males in
Hampton Roads. To strengthen the university’s commitment
to this endeavor, NSU announced today at the 12th Annual
200+ Scholars Breakfast that it is offering Provost’s
Academic Achievement Scholarships to African-American
males in Hampton Roads with at least a 3.0 cumulative
grade point average.
Upon acceptance to NSU, prospective scholarship
recipients will be awarded $2500 per year for two years
when enrolled as a full-time student. This represents a
commitment of more than $1.5 million in tuition and
fees. Additionally, these scholars will have the
opportunity to apply to the Honors College after their
first semester and may receive increased scholarship
support.
While some colleges and universities have seen a decline
in African-American male enrollment, NSU experienced a
27 percent increase in its new freshmen African-American
male enrollment from fall 2007 to fall 2008. This
increase is a result of expanded recruitment outreach,
mentoring programs and faculty involvement. NSU is one
of the Hampton Roads leaders in providing affordable
four-year education for African-American male scholars.
The university offers an array of highly desired
academic programs.
Since its inception, NSU has been a proud supporter of
the 200+ Scholars Breakfast, which is sponsored by the
Hampton Roads Committee of 200+ Men.
