NSU to Host Annual Martin Luther King Jr.
Commemorative Observance and Freedom March on Jan. 15
Norfolk, Va.—Norfolk
State University will kick-off its Black History Month
activities with the annual Martin Luther King Jr.
Commemorative Observance and Freedom March at 11 a.m.
Thursday, January 15. The symbolic march leaves from the
Lyman Beecher Brooks Library and proceeds to the L.
Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center. Immediately
following the march, Linda Clark, pastor of Union United
Church of Christ in Norfolk, will deliver the keynote
address.
Clark’s
address will focus on Martin Luther King’s legacy. She
is the first female pastor in Union United’s 98-year
history. Prior to her call to ministry, Clark worked as
a licensed clinical social worker for more than 20
years. She assisted children and families in the field
of mental health.
She
holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Virginia
Union University, a master’s degree in social work from
Norfolk State, and a master of divinity and doctor of
ministry from Virginia Union University.
A
long-time resident of Hampton Roads, Clark is married to
Robert A. Clark Jr. They have two adult daughters and
two grandchildren.
