Lawrence C. Ross, Jr., Best-Selling Author of The
Divine Nine,
to Speak at NSU on September 10
Norfolk, Va.—Lawrence
C. Ross, best-selling author of The Divine Nine
and a nationally recognized expert on black sororities
and fraternities, will speak at Norfolk State University
at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the L. Douglas Wilder
Performing Arts Center. His talk is free and open to
the public.
Ross, a
member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., has lectured
at more than 300 universities. He is considered an
important writer of African-American literature and his
written other books including the Ways of Black
Folks: A Year in the Life of a People, Friends
with Benefits, Skin Game.
Ross has appeared on National Public Radio,
Good Morning Atlanta, and has been interviewed in
Ebony, Savoy, Essence, the Los
Angeles Times, Africana.com, and the
London Times, among others.
He is
president of brandGREEK.com, a new free website that
matches fraternity and sorority chapters needing
sponsorships for their social, community service and
scholarship events. He is also president of Afroboho, a
film and television production company that is currently
developing shows for both Black Entertainment Television
and TV-One.
Educated
at the University of California at Berkeley and the
University of California at Los Angeles, Ross received a
bachelor’s degree in history from UCLA and an MFA from
the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. He
currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, April,
and their son, Langston.
