Carrie Waites to Receive Virginia Social Work
Lifetime Achievement Award
Norfolk, Va.— Carrie R. Waites, NSU professor and director of the Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work, will be presented the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Social Workers-Virginia chapter on Saturday, March 8. The annual awards program will be held at the Omni Richmond Hotel in Richmond, Va.
Since 1975, Waites has served the NSU and Hampton Roads communities. Her award is based on her outstanding lifetime contributions to the field of social work in the areas of private clinical practice, administration/management and academia. She has also served as a consultant on the national, state and local levels, and has provided volunteer community services for a number of organizations. Her nomination was enthusiastically supported by a large representation of letters of support from social work/human services professionals as well as the School of Social Work students, administration, faculty and staff.
Additionally, Waites will be honored locally at the annual Social Work Month dinner meeting of the Hampton Roads chapter of the NSAW-VA on Friday, March 28 in Virginia Beach.
NASW-VA works to advance the quality of social work practice in the Commonwealth, promote unity and recognition of the social work profession, and promote sound public policies aimed at meeting human needs and improving the quality of life for social work clients. It also provides continuing education programs, and legislative advocacy programs.
