Community Leaders’
Breakfast to be held at NSU
Norfolk, Va.—The
Urban League of Hampton Roads will host the 24th Annual
Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Leaders’ Breakfast at
7:30 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2008 at Joseph G. Echols
Memorial Hall, which is located on the campus of Norfolk
State University.
Inspired by the work of Dr. King, the breakfast
recognizes the distinguished service of citizens
contributing to the improvement of society. This year’s
theme is A Charge to Keep. Edward Bullock, an NSU
alumnus and vice president for diversity at L’Oreal USA,
will be the guest speaker. His speech will focus on
embracing diversity.
Under the
leadership of Bullock, L’Oreal USA has expanded its
diversity efforts. Reporting to the president and CEO of
L’Oreal, Bullock leads the company’s diversity
initiatives in its workforce, vendor and community
relations. His duties include review of human resources
representation for women and people of color, supplier
diversity, multicultural advertising strategy,
philanthropy and all diversity and inclusion training
programs. L’Oreal USA has won several awards for its
diversity programs including the 2004 Diversity Best
Practice Global Award.
Bullock is the recipient of numerous awards such as the
National Council for Community and Justice Humanitarian
Award, the Distinguished Alumni Award from Norfolk State
University, the NAACP and Urban League Service Awards,
the American Association for Affirmative Action
Corporate Award and Career Development Service Awards
from Rutgers University, Seton Hall University and Young
Scholars Institute. He is the author of articles
featured in the National Business Employment Weekly,
a Wall Street Journal publication; the Black
Collegian Magazine and several Diversity publications.
He is also a frequent presenter on such topics as
“Diversity and Inclusion,” “Preparing for the World of
Work,” “The Resume, the Interview, and You,” and “Real
Life in Corporate America.”
This event is
co-sponsored by NSU, Old Dominion University and
