NSU to Host a City Town Hall
Meeting to Discuss the Problem
of America’s Role in Oil
Dependency
Norfolk, Va.—Norfolk
State University will host a city town hall meeting to
discuss Securing Our Future: America’s Role in Oil
Dependency and Climate Change from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts
Center, Room B. John Grant, campaign coordinator for the
Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund, will deliver
the keynote address.
Free and open to the public, the
town hall meeting will feature expert speakers who each play
a different role in addressing issues in oil dependency and
climate change, and the role that individuals and
communities can play to mitigate the problem. After the
presentation, the speaker will lead students and the general
public in an interactive question and answer session.
Designed to equip service-minded
students with the tools to educate and rally their
communities around key international issues like energy
security and climate change, Securing Our Future,
comes at a critical time as the U.S, and the world face
critical climate changes.
At the Natural Resources Defense
Council, Grant works on a variety of energy campaigns. He
is also the campaign manager for Re-energize America, a
campaign to end the twin problems of oil dependence and
global warming. Prior to Re-energize America, Grant worked
for the Environmental Accountability Fund and the
legislative department of the Natural Resources Defense
Council. A native of Blacksburg, Va. Grant earned a
bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University and a
master’s degree from the Graduate School of Political
Management at George Washington University.
