Norfolk, VA — PRESS STATEMENT -- On December 16, 2004 a
statement was issued:
Today, I am announcing the immediate departure of head football
coach, Willie Gillus. Several factors contributed to the
university’s decision to remove Gillus, including a number of
football violations recently reported by NSU to the NCAA.
NSU will begin the process of obtaining a new football coach for the
2005 season immediately.
In addition, Mr. Orby Moss, NSU’s Athletic Director, has decided to
step away from Athletics. He realizes it is time for NSU’s Athletic
programs to have a fresh start. I have assigned him as Special
Assistant to the President, and he will conduct special projects as
assigned by me.
Marty Miller, NSU’s successful and longtime baseball coach, will
become Acting Athletic Director as of today.
