Norfolk, Va.—Norfolk State University will host a community forum titled
The Resurgence of AIDS in the African American Community, Thursday,
December 2 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Virginia Beach Higher Education
Center. Sharon Hoggard, director of NSU’s News and Media Relations will
serve as panel moderator.
Free and open to the public, the forum is designed to increase community
awareness about current issues; assess socio-economic, political and
environmental issues facing our society; integrate immediate strategies
and proactive solutions into actions that will promote the welfare of
the community and the University; engage stakeholders in building
community involvement partnerships; and to promote NSU’s commitment to
community service by providing information from faculty experts.
The expert panel members include the following:
- Hildegarde Richardson, NSU AIDS Education Specialist
- Joe McBride, Virginia Beach Community Services Board
- Jackie Tennessee, Portsmouth Community Services Board
Geared toward community leaders, grassroots organizations, civic
leaders, media representatives, religious organizations, and other
interested groups, the forum will be an audience driven, interactive
examination of issues, concerns and questions related to the topic
and the region’s ability to handle this epidemic.
