RISE Supernode to provide local interconnectivity via TelCove’s network Norfolk, Va.—Norfolk State University officials announced today that NSU’s RISE Campus and its RISE Supernode will provide local interconnectivity to all major points of presence (POPs) and local serving offices (LSOs) in south Hampton Roads, Virginia, via TelCove’s premium fiber optic network. TelCove, Inc. is a leading provider of innovative telecommunication solutions for communications intensive requirements. This major step by NSU positions the RISE Campus as the premier data exchange center, Internet Service Provider (ISP) and enterprise hosting facility in Hampton Roads. Additionally, it establishes the NSU RISE Campus as a gateway for high bandwidth Internet for the Hampton Roads region. This high bandwidth capability will enable businesses to obtain secured backup data storage, faster Internet services for both homes and businesses, and real-time access for businesses that have offices throughout the nation and the world. The arrangement between NSU and TelCove uniquely positions the telecommunications company as the premier provider of voice and data services to NSU and the RISE Campus. "TelCove is excited about being a key stakeholder in the RISE project,” said Joe McCourt, regional vice president for TelCove. “Our secure fiber network will provide NSU with an opportunity to remain on the edge of technological advancements in the communications space.”
The RISE Campus will provide abundant SONET (synchronous optical network)
ring architecture, which will enable the Hampton Roads community to be
connected to all tandem facilities and major POPs. This includes Bute
Street, Towne Center, Industrial Avenue, Lovitt Street, 32nd Street, Great
Bridge and the oceanfront – infrastructures already constructed for global
crossing interconnectivity.
In a recent economic impact study conducted by Dr. Andrew C. Brod,
director of the Office of Business and Economic Research in the Bryan
School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina
Greensboro, it was projected that NSU has a yearly economic impact in the
Hampton Roads economy of more than $527.8 million. With the development of
the RISE Campus, this impact is projected to increase more than $122.6
million annually.
