NSU Names New Dean of the School of Business Norfolk, Va.— H. Martin Shane has been named dean of the School of Business
at Norfolk State University, effective June 1.
As the new dean, Shane will be responsible for the administrative and academic leadership of the school. He will ensure that faculty exercise academic freedom, engage in the appropriate peer and student evaluation, and have adequate resources and professional development appropriates. He will also supervise department chairs within the school. Dedicated to promoting collaboration and the benefits of maintaining a healthy learning community, Shane believes that faculty cohesiveness is one of the most critical resources in any academic enterprise. “The School of Business needs to maintain its momentum and capitalize on the successes in program development, student achievements, faculty productivity, community partnerships, AACSB accreditation, and move forward toward the attainment of future goals,” said Shane. Prior to coming to Norfolk State University, Shane served as Western Illinois University’s chair of the department of management. At WIU, he also served as a professor of management and taught classes in human resource management, international management and strategic management. His research interests include network centricity, management training/development, organizational performance/effectiveness, stress management, workforce diversity, workplace management, service learning, and global competition for skilled human resources. Shane has been published in various academic and practitioner journals, and has given presentations at numerous professional conferences in the U.S. and overseas. Shane has also served as supervisor of employee relations with a multinational corporation and as a vice president for a privately owned small business.
In addition to his extensive management experience, Shane will bring a
career-long leadership perspective that fosters mutual respect and
promotes the talents of students, faculty, and staff. |
