WHAT:
Foundation for Virginia, a non-profit organization with broad
bi-partisan support from across the state will hold news conferences in
Richmond, Norfolk and Roanoke on Monday, March 8.
The Chairman of the
Foundation Board, Paul Trible, Virginia’s former Republican U.S. Senator
and current President of Christopher Newport University, will lead
representatives from a coalition of organizations for business, education,
local governments, healthcare, public safety and environmental quality in
a “call for leadership” from the General Assembly to support new revenues
for education and other core services, as proposed in the Senate budget,
and to approve a state budget on time.
Priorities for the Foundation are to: meet our commitment to public
education; preserve Virginia’s credit rating; honor commitments to local
government; protect higher education; safeguard public safety and
environmental quality and, by doing these things, create opportunity for
Virginia’s families.
WHO:
Participants in the three press conferences include: Paul Trible,
Chairman of the Foundation; Mike Anzilotti, Chairman, Virginia Business
Council; Dr. Glenn DuBois, Chancellor, Virginia Community College System;
Bill Kallio, Director, Virginia AARP; Mike Mohler, Fairfax County
Professional Firefighters; Jean Bankos, Virginia Education Association;
and Larry Sartoris, Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association.
At each site,
they will be joined by local leaders and representatives of the
coalition of individuals and community organizations that support
these goals.
