NSU Presidential Leadership Fellows Named The
Institute, through Title III funding, will direct resources that
concentrate on the next generation of administrators who will guide the
university, its students, its programs and continue the legacy of
providing an affordable high-quality education for an ethnically and
culturally diverse population. The
primary objective of the Institute is to provide focused training
strategies and learning opportunities to prepare an assembly of faculty
and staff for the challenges of higher education leadership.
The first five Leadership Fellows are as follows: Mercy Azeke—Azeke has
more than 22 years in the field of education.
Since 1999, she has served as the director of the Academy for
Collegiate Excellence and Student Success (ACCESS).
She has been responsible for academic support services relating to
student retention and success and has served on various NSU committees
including the expanded cabinet, the dean’s council, assessment
committee, enrollment management committee, and the writing across the
curriculum workgroup. Mona Bryant-Shanklin—Shanklin
has been an advocate in the Antionette K. Lampkin—Lampkin
currently serves as director of New Student Orientation and since 1974 has
held numerous positions at the university that foster student development
and retention. In her current
capacity, she is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the
on and off-campus new student orientations.
She has served on a host of university-wide committees including
fall convocation, commencement, alumni reception, family weekend,
enrollment management, athletics, and academic credits and standards.
Michelle Marable—Since 1983, Marable, director of
Admissions, has served in almost every capacity in the Office of
Admissions. She is primarily responsible for providing leadership to all
aspects of admissions operation, which include developing and implementing
comprehensive strategic recruitment and admissions plans.
She has been instrumental in NSU’s recruitment process through
creative marketing and recruitment strategies such as the beauty/barber
shop initiative, birthday card concept for prospects and developing the
first online virtual tour at NSU. Amelia Ross-Hammond—Ross-Hammond
has more than 25 years of experience instructing and coordinating
music/art programs at private and public higher education institutions.
She currently serves as an assistant professor of music.
She is also a standing member of the Each
fellow will engage in assessment and training activities directed toward
enhancing their administrative leadership skills.
They will also meet with Institute consultants to develop
professional growth plans based on the assessment of their skills.
