NSU Student Government Association Norfolk, Va.—Norfolk State University’s Student Government Association is sponsoring a special commemorative service to recognize the 40th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 in the mall area in front of the Mills E. Godwin Student Union Building. The featured speaker for the observance is George E. Eason, Jr. He will be re-enacting Martin Luther King’s I Have A Dream speech. Eason is a Portsmouth native who has become known as that “Martin Luther King” person because of his annual performances from Delaware to Texas during Black History Month. He is also a former member of a theatrical group called The Not Just For February Players where his readings brought life to African American poetry, scripture and songs. Other highlights of the event include performances of Negro spirituals by the NSU Gospel Choir and NSU alum LaVoris A. Pace.
