Mass Communications Conference and Career
Fair to be Held at Norfolk State Feb. 20-21
Norfolk, Va.— Norfolk State University’s Department of Mass Communication and Journalism will host its first Mass Communications Conference and Career Fair, Feb. 20-21 at the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center.
Geared towards mass communication, marketing, music media students and graduates of Norfolk State University, the two-day conference and career fair will introduce regional and local mass media companies to NSU students, faculty and facilities, and inform students about a variety of job/internship opportunities that exist inside and outside of traditional mass media careers.
Day one of the conference will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20 with breakout sessions tailored to meet the needs of aspiring print and broadcast journalists, public relations, advertising. Participants will have the opportunity to hear working professionals from both local and national media outlets discuss the ins and outs of their respective careers as well as an opportunity to engage in interactive panel discussions, question and answer sessions, and informal discussion. Other topics include Navigating a Career By Using Your Own Personal Compass and a graphic and web design workshop.
The Job and Internship Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21. Regional and local representatives from mass media related businesses will be available to talk with students about their companies and inform students about available jobs and internships that they offer. A panel discussion on the business side of broadcast will also be held. The day will conclude with an Alumni Reception at Scott-Dozier Dining Hall from 3 to 5 p.m.
The conference and career fair, both of which are free and open to public, are co-sponsored by the NSU Department of Mass Communications and Journalism, the NSU Alumni Association and Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals.
