names Dr. Rodney Gaines as new Strength Norfolk, Va. Norfolk State University Athletics Director Orby Moss has announced the hiring of Dr. Rodney Gaines, Strength and Conditioning coach. Gaines will oversee the strength and conditioning for all of Norfolk State athletics programs. He comes from Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, VA, where he was coordinator of assessment and research. He will also serve as an assistant professor in the health and exercise science department at NSU. Gaines brings a wealth on knowledge in the field of strength and conditioning to NSU. He served as corporate wellness/fitness manager for Richfood Inc. from (1997-98). He also served as a personal trainer and fitness director with Fitness Connection in Blacksburg, VA (1998-00) and was fitness director/personal trainer for American Family Fitness (1996-98). He served as an assistant strength coach and graduate teaching assistant at Virginia Tech (1994-96). Gaines
earned a Doctorate of Philosophy, Education, Curriculum, and Instruction,
with an emphasis in Health Promotion, Physical Education, and Education
Research from Virginia Tech. Gaines also received his master's and bachelor's
degree at Virginia Tech. He holds masters in Physical Education with
an emphasis in Adult Fitness and Cardiac Rehabilitation and bachelors
in Business Finance.
