Faculty Senate of Virginia and the State Conference of the American Association of University Professors to Hold Joint Meeting March 24

Norfolk, Va.—Norfolk State University’s Office of the President will host the Faculty Senate of Virginia and the State Conference of the American Association of University Professors joint meeting at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 24.

Geared towards university faculty, each organization will have its own agenda and separate meetings.  They will come together for a luncheon in which Norfolk State University President Marie V. McDemmond will bring greetings and discuss the significance of Norfolk State. The keynote speaker for the luncheon is Iris Molotsky, director of membership development at the American Association of University Professors.  She will discuss the “Corporatization of Higher Education.”

Since October 1982, Molotsky has served as associate secretary for the American Association of University Professors and director of membership development and public information. She is an associate editor of the AAUP's bi-monthly journal, Academe, and is the creator and editor of Footnotes, published each fall. Molotsky has worked extensively in the field of communications, including presenting regional and national workshops, writing manuals, and assisting faculty to implement chapter and state media programs.

In addition to Molotsky’s talk, staff members from the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia will also address the Faculty Senate of Virginia on a variety of topics.
The conference is free and open to university faculty.  Pre-registration by Feb. 28 is preferred.  For more information or to register, call Anthony Sherman at 823-8249.
