Five NSU Alumni Receive NAFEO 2001
Distinguished Alumni Awards
Norfolk, Va.-The National
Association of Equal Opportunity in Higher Education recently recognized
five Norfolk State University alumni with a 2001 NAFEO Distinguished
Alumni Award.
NAFEO recognized the following Norfolk State University alumni for their
achievements in higher education:
Marty Miller-A native of Danville, Miller currently serves as
the associate vice president for student affairs and head baseball coach
at Norfolk State University. He received his undergraduate and graduate
degrees from the University. He is also a member of the Virginia Sports
Hall of Fame and Museum.
Nathan McCall-A native of Portsmouth, McCall is currently writer
and lecturer at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. He is also the author
of the bestseller Makes Me Wanna Holler and What's Going On.
Robert Benjamin Lee, III-A native of Norfolk, Lee serves as a
senior research scientist as NASA Langley Research Center. He has published
more than 189 journal articles and conference papers.
Patricia Hawkins Fisher-A native of Portsmouth, Hawkins Fisher
is the director of instruction for secondary schools at Portsmouth City
Public Schools. She was named the 1982-83 teacher/educator of the year
and was listed in the 1984 edition of Who's Who in the South and Southeast.
Ann Peele Ambrose-A native of Williamston, N.C., Peele Ambrose
is a professor of business at Tidewater Community College in Portsmouth.
She was named Iota Phi Lambda Sorority's 1995 Woman of the Year and
is a member of the National Business Education Association.
Founded in 1969, NAFEO is the national umbrella and public policy advocacy
organization for 118 of the nation's largest historically and predominately
black colleges and universities. Its mission is to champion the mission
of HBCU's through executive, legislative, regulatory and judicial branches
of federal and state government.
