NSU Celebrates African-American History Month with
Theme of Heroes and Human Rights

Norfolk, Va.— Norfolk State University will kick off its African-American History Month celebration with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Observance Friday, Jan. 18.  This year’s theme is Heroes and Human Rights.

The observance will begin with a symbolic march at 10:30 a.m., starting at the Lyman Beecher Brooks Library.    At 11 a.m., the campus community will gather at the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. program.

Ron Clark, director of the Virginia Fatherhood Campaign, will deliver the keynote address “Heroes and Human Rights: Fatherhood Involvement.” Clark leads the state’s effort to improve the social and health outcomes of children through father involvement.  He has a distinguished background and long career in developing and implementing programs targeting fathers, fatherless males and young unwed parents.
