“Diversity in the Classroom: Building
a Legacy
in Education” To Be Held Oct. 6 Norfolk, Va—Norfolk State University will sponsor the 7th Annual Dewitt Wallace-Reader’s Digest Pathways to Teaching Project and Teacher Recruitment Project from 8:30 a.m.- 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 6 in the H.H. Bozeman Education Building. This year’s conference theme “Diversity in the Classroom: Building a Legacy in Education” will offer teachers, administrators and community representatives successful strategies for working with urban and diverse students.The opening session speaker will be Maurice Sykes, a motivational speaker and former District of Columbia school administrator. The luncheon speaker is Mary Beth Blegen, a teacher-in-residence with the U.S. Department of Education. In addition to the keynote speakers’ presentations, the conference will explore topics such as “Teaching Diverse Students: A Recipe for Success,” “Professionalism: What is It?,” “Science Made Easy,” “Using Multiple Intelligences to Enhance Student Learning,” “Building the Emotional Well-Being of School Age Students” and more. The cost for the conference, which includes all conference materials, refreshments and lunch, is $35. Registration is required. For more information or to register, call 823-9583.
