University Names Karla C. Johnson Director for Event Planning and Agency Liaison Norfolk, Va. - Karla C. Johnson has been named director for event planning and agency liaison at Norfolk State University, effective Sept. 5. As the new director, Johnson will be responsible for scheduling and coordinating major events, drafting and editing related printed materials, preparing event remarks and generating invitation lists. She will also maintain communications on behalf of the university by serving as the primary liaison to local and state agencies, public, government and elected officials. Prior to coming to Norfolk State University, Johnson served as director of university events, government relations and licensing at Old Dominion University. She provided staff support for the president's governmental relations activities, directed and organized all external major events, managed financial and personnel resources allocated for institutional advancement and supervised the administration of copy services for the university community. Johnson, who has 20 years of state budget and organizational experience, received a bachelor's degree in English and is a candidate for a master's in public administration at Old Dominion. She is a member of the Association of Collegiate Licensing Administrators, the Association of College Event Directors, International Special Events Society, Public Affairs Advisory Committee of the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia and numerous other professional organizations. |
