The
Red Ribbon Campaign Week Begins Oct. 21
Norfolk, Va.- Norfolk State University has joined the 2000 National Red Ribbon Campaign to help create a drug-free community. The university would like all administrators, faculty, staff and students to wear a red ribbon during the week of Oct. 21-28. Red Ribbon Week activities include the "March Against Substance Abuse," which will assemble at 5:30 p.m. and begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24 in Lot 14 on the campus of Norfolk State University. The community is encouraged to attend. Immediately following the march, the public is invited to attend a rally and basketball game at the Brambleton Community Outreach center, located at 909 Marshall Ave., to watch the Brambleton Nighthawks and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. battle on the basketball court. A $1 donation is requested. All proceeds will benefit Smart Moves, a curriculum-based program that aids youth in making wise decisions. Sponsored by the Police Assisted Community Enforcement, the Red Ribbon Campaign is a campaign to encourage every citizen to make a unified and visible commitment toward the creation of a drug-free Norfolk. Established in 1985 by the National Family Partnership, the campaign encourages citizens to wear a small badge of red as a symbol of America's intolerance of drugs. For more information about the Red Ribbon Campaign, call 823-8373. Groups interested in participating in the march should contact Debra Atkins at 823-2372. #MDG# |
