Norfolk, Va.— A Census Information Center has been established through the NSU Center for Applied Research and Public Policy, a component of the School of Liberal Arts, and with the university’s Lyman Beecher Brooks Library Reference Department. The U.S. Bureau of Census, Census Information Centers are extensions of the U.S. Census data information dissemination system. Traditionally, this included the Federal Repository Libraries, State Data Centers, and Business and Industry Data Centers. CIC’s will increase from the previously established five to 59. The CIC’s are located in national, regional or local institutions and nonprofit organizations. They represent organizations or institutions that are interested in providing data to underserved communities, racial/ethnic groups, children, rural areas, disabled etc. The CIC’s provide easy access to census bureau data for socio-economic demographics; program planning needs assessment, policy development analysis and other research interests. “With the addition of the Census Information Center, Norfolk State University will continue in its mission to remain in the forefront of providing advanced technological research by equipping students, faculty and community residents with the capabilities of effectively competing in the global economy, “ said President Marie V. McDemmond. The CIC will be located in Norfolk State University’s
