NYSP 2000 BEGINS AT NSU THIS MONTH

Norfolk, Va. - Norfolk State University will sponsor its National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) from June 19 through July 21, 2000. The five-week program continues to be one of the most successful in the nation ranking in the 96 percentile.

The NYSP program offers a variety of activities for girls and boys, ages 10-16, from 12:00 noon to 6:30 p.m. They include swimming, basketball, tennis, volleyball, fitness exercises, and hands-on computer training. The program, including a required physical examination, is free to all its participants.

Norfolk State University has participated in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Summer Food Service Program for the past 31 years averaging approximately 500 youngsters annually during the last decade. No-cost meals will be provided for all children in the Scott-Dozier Dining Hall. Lunch will be served from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. and dinner from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. While the majority of the activities will be held in the James Gill Gymnasium, tennis will be outdoors on the campus courts.

Acceptance and participation requirements for the food service program and all related activities are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, or marital or family status. There will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
