NSU Student Receives Recognition
as First Reclamation 2000 Graduate
Norfolk, Va.—Virginia Beach native Ron Cannon will be the first graduate of Norfolk State University’s Reclamation 2000 Project, a pilot project designed to facilitate the continuing education and subsequent graduation of Norfolk State University students who left the institution prior to earning a degree. After nearly 20 years, Cannon, a marketing major in Norfolk State’s School of Business, will receive his bachelor’s degree in business administration. He will also be graduating from the university’s paralegal certificate program, which is offered at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center. “I wish to convey my deepest thanks to Dr. Marie V. McDemmond and Norfolk State University,” said Cannon. “If it were not for your tireless dedication and persistence in the realm of educational excellence, my achievement in this endeavor would not have matured.” Norfolk State’s Reclamation 2000 project is limited to former full-time Norfolk State students who are 24 years of age or older and have not been enrolled at the university during the last five years. The project takes full advantage of technology while maintaining the academic integrity and intellectual rigor of the university. Many classes are offered as web-based courses in response to the nations demand to meet the educational requirements of the non-traditional economy and learner. As a result of the Reclamation 2000 Project, Norfolk State University is now a member of the Southern Region Electronic Campus and the Electronic Campus of Virginia, a consortium of universities offering instruction over the World Wide Web. Although Cannon has not made a definite career decision, he plans to continue his education by enrolling in graduate school. -MDG- |
