Gerald D. Tyler Accepts New Position at the As the new military program advisor, Tyler will promote the marketing of the off-campus degree and certificate programs, serve as an advocate for adult student concerns at military installations, provide academic counseling and assistance, and serve as a liaison for the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center. For the past 16 years, Tyler was responsible for promoting and advancing the university's mission, vision and goals. Dedicated and committed to the overall enhancement of Norfolk State's image, Tyler also ensured that the information about the university was communicated accurately and timely across the nation, responded to media inquiries and handled photographic services and advertising. A native Virginian, Tyler received both a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's in urban affairs from Norfolk State. Further studies toward a doctorate degree in urban services were also done at Old Dominion University. He has been recognized for his outstanding institutional advancement work and many contributions to the public relations profession by numerous professional organizations and included in "Who's Who in Public Relations" and "Who's Who Among Black Americans." In addition to Tyler's departure, the Office of University Relations has received a name change. It will now be called the Office of News and Media Relations, which is under the division of university advancement. |
