Phillip D. Adams Named Associate Vice President of
University Advancement for Development

Norfolk, Va.-Phillip D. Adams has been named associate vice president of institutional advancement for development at Norfolk State University, effective July 31.

As the new associate vice president, Adams will manage the university's development efforts to include prospect research, corporate and foundation relations, and major and annual giving campaigns. He will also offer "the solid fund-raising leadership necessary to fulfill the university's fundraising goals and objectives."

Prior to coming to Norfolk State, Adams served as chief advancement officer at LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, Tenn. He led all aspects of fundraising, alumni relations and public relations. For three years, he was also the director of development at LeMoyne-Owen. During that time, he directed the United Negro College Fund Campaign for the Memphis area and played a major role in a 1997 Challenge Campaign that raised $5 million in less than 90 days.

A native of St. Louis, Mo., Adams has established a 10-year track record of leadership in generating revenue, increasing volunteer involvement, building strategic alliances and increasing community support in academic and non-profit settings.

Adams, who was named one of Memphis' Top 40 Leaders Under 40, received a bachelor's degree in human resources management from Saint Leo University and a master's in human resources administration from Golden Gate University. He also recently graduated from the Leadership Institute of Memphis, a yearlong leadership development program for community leaders.
