Associate Vice President for Facilities Management
THE UNIVERSITY: Norfolk State University is a full-accredited
comprehensive urban institution founded in 1935. The University is
located in the Hampton Roads area in the city of Norfolk, Virginia and
is one of 15 public four – year institutions of higher education in the
Commonwealth of Virginia. NSU has approximately 7,000 students, 1,100
faculty and staff, five academic schools, has a yearly operating budget
exceeding $100 million and is the largest historically black college or
university in Virginia and the 7th largest in the nation.
POSITION:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reports to the Vice President for Finance and
Business and will be responsible for maintaining nearly 1.4 million
square feet of space, and oversight of $ 7.3 million operating
budget.
- Administers major and minor construction projects
ranging from $25,000 to $25 million.
- Administers a system of internal controls, which
maximizes the institution’s effective and efficient operation of its
facilities management services and safeguards the institution’s
assets.
- Ensures the University’s physical property
(consisting of approximately 32 buildings and 250 plus acres) is
well maintained to appropriate quality standards and that the
University has an effective maintenance and improvement program.
- Oversees budget development and implementation of
facilities management budgets.
- Serves as the University’s liaison between
internal constituents and external agencies on facilities management
issues.
- Promotes utilization of new technological
advancements in facilities management services.
- Prepares annual and long-term capital plans.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in
engineering or related field. Master’s degree in Architecture, Planning
or Engineering or field of study directly related to the position
preferred. Senior level administrative experience in large-scale
facilities, construction or building systems management and capital
planning. Ten years of progressively responsible managerial and
supervisory experience in construction management, building systems
management, facilities management, preferably in higher education
environments. Experience in contract administration and complex budgets.
Experience in a state supported institution of higher education
preferred.

Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience.
