POSITION: The School of Science and Technology seeks applications and nominations for the position, Coordinator, Pre-service Teacher Program (PSTP). The Pre-Service Teacher Program (PSTP) is a partnership between the NASA Langley’s Office of Education and the School of Science and Technology. The aim of the program is to provide pre-service teachers and faculty members opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills in teaching mathematics and science using technology at the elementary and middle school levels. This position is grant funded. RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate for this position must be a self-directed individual who can work collaboratively with students and faculty at other institutions to advance the mission of the PSTP. Duties include: providing operational and fiscal management oversight for the PSTP; identifying and contacting potential program sponsors and increasing the program’s national visibility; planning and executing the spring conference and summer institutes; selecting and supervising all external staff, consultants, and participants for the PSTP; assisting the project director with the development of proposal submissions to sponsors and the completion of all program closeout requirements; identifying and selecting participating institutions for PSTP, training site coordinators, and selecting sites where program offerings will be conducted; overseeing the development of a longitudinal study for PSTP; and organizing, maintaining, and submitting original receipts, records, bid documents, accounting and audit records, and periodic and end-of-term fiscal reports as requested. QUALIFICATIONS: Essential selection criteria for
the position include: a terminal degree in an education of a relevant
field; demonstrated expertise in the areas of science, mathematics,
or technology; extensive experience and understanding of the national
standards for science, mathematics, technology, and standards-based
curricula; experience in working with the National Council for Accreditation
of Teacher Education (NCATE), Interstate New Teacher Assessment Support
Consortium (INTASC), and/or the National Board for Professional Teaching
Standards (NBPTS); significant experience in planning and conducting
science, mathematics, and technology workshops and conferences for a
variety of audiences including pre-service and in-service teachers and
school administrators; effective skills in supervision, oral and written
communication, interpersonal relationships, team building, financial
management, computer literacy; proven skills in developing, organizing,
and sustaining programmatic initiatives; and familiarity with federal
and state regulations, current research, and analyses of programs that
