Job openings at Norfolk State:
POSITION: The Sociology Department initiated a new M.A. in Criminal Justice program in Fall 2003. Applicants are sought for two tenure track faculty positions. Appointments will commence Summer 2004 or Fall 2004. Retention, promotion, and tenure will depend on record of scholarly accomplishments. THE UNIVERSITY: Norfolk State University enrolls 7,000 students earning associate, bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees within five schools. The University is in the center of Hampton Roads, a metropolitan area with 1.5 million residents in the southeast corner of Virginia. The region offers rich historical, cultural, recreational, and outdoor activities. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include teaching graduate courses in the areas of criminal justice management and juvenile justice; general criminal justice courses in an undergraduate concentration; and student advising. While outstanding teaching is essential, faculty are also expected to be engaged in curriculum development, research, and community service. QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in criminal justice, criminology, or a closely related discipline with criminal justice expertise is required. Administrative experience is required. With educational technology being used in every course, experience in distance learning is a plus. SALARY/RANK: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
