BEAMS at NSU: Improving Enriching Educational Experiences (E³)
Through Better Alignment of Curricular and Co-Curricular Activities

As one component of becoming an engaged learning community, Norfolk State University is transforming into a coherent learner-centered campus – an environment where curricular and co-curricular structures and processes are properly aligned so that they perform effectively to enhance student learning and development.

Enriching Educational Experiences (E³) play a significant role in equipping culturally and ethnically diverse NSU students with the capability of becoming productive citizens who continuously contribute to a global and rapidly changing society. The NSU BEAMS Team will assess current opportunities for enriching educational activities on the NSU campus, develop a common set of outcomes for these activities, and generate strategies to align these activities with the general education goals.

This alignment will help students, faculty, and staff identify connections between various co-curricular activities, as well as between co-curricular and classroom experience; will move students toward giving functional meaning to the formal processes of curriculum and co-curricular activities; and will enhance the effect of these activities on student learning and development.
