The
Department of Health, Physical Education & Exercise Science is designed
to prepare educational personnel for a variety of roles in the educational
arena.
Purpose
The
Department of Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science offers the
Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education (teacher
education), Exercise Science/Kinesiotherapy, and Health
Fitness (non-teaching option).
Health and Physical
Education
The Bachelor of Science Degree in
Health, Physical Education & Exercise Science is designed to prepare
students to become teachers of health and physical education in grades P-12.
The teacher certification program in physical education also permits an
add-on endorsement in aquatics, and/or driver education.
Health Fitness
Instructor
The certified health
fitness instructor is trained to deliver fitness training in corporate
settings, health spas, and in other areas of the sports and fitness industry.
Kinesiotherapy
The certified
kinesiotherapist is a health care
professional who, under the direction of a physician, treats the effects of
disease, injury and congenital disorders through the use of therapeutic exercise
and education.
Registered
kinesiotherapists are employed in the
Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, public and private hospitals,
sports medicine facilities, wellness programs, learning disability centers,
and other rehabilitation settings.
Laboratory Facilities
The department provides
on-campus laboratory facilities through the operation of an anatomical,
biomechanical kinesiology, and exercise physiology laboratory.
The department also has
two gymnasiums, swimming pool, dance studio, racquetball courts, regulation
tennis courts, softball diamond, and regulation fields for football, soccer
and other individual and team sports.
