Online Writing Lab

The NSU online writing lab (OWL) was developed by the English and Foreign Languages department to assist NSU students in meeting the state-mandated competency standard in writing and help students to pass the University’s Exam of Writing Competency.  Services provided in the online writing lab will help students to write an acceptable essay and to respond effectively and correctly to other writing tasks.   In addition, students can benefit from opportunities to reinforce, review, apply and practice what they have learned in the classroom.  The OWL, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is one tool that provides students access to writing tutorials tailored to address problem areas, such as paragraph development, diction, sentence structure, grammar, mechanics and usage.  Additionally, the OWL includes links to other online writing labs, employs interactive components, and offers opportunities for live interaction with faculty and staff members at designated times.
