First Year Experience (FYE)

The First Year Experience department offers you support services and programs that help you find success during your first year of college.

FYE/ACCESS Academic Advisors can help you with the academic, personal and social aspects of going from high school to college.  We know you may have challenges during your first year, and we'll help you create a solid foundation fro your next four years at NSU!

We are here to help our newest undergraduates, both freshmen and transfer students, transition into the intellectual, social, and cultural community at Norfolk State University.

We provide the following FREE services:

  • Individual & Group Tutoring
  • Review Sessions & Study Hall
  • Instructional Computer Laboratory
  • Intrusive Academic Advising
  • Specialized Academic Services for Undeclared, First Year and Probation Students

You may have a lot of questions, concerns, ideas, or moments when you need someone to talk to about university life.  Whatever, you need, FYE is here to help.  All you have to do is....ASK!  Please visit us in the James A. Bowser Building, Suite 118.

Hours of Operations:

Monday-Thursday - 8:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Friday- 8:00 a.m., - 5:00 p.m.

University 101   ACCESS
     
University 101 is a course required for all new students enrolled in the University for the first time. It is a requirement for graduation.   ACCESS is a comprehensive, multi-faceted department designed to facilitate and improve student success, retention and graduation rates.
